Hola from Miami! After a super crazy adventure, I’ve made it and am getting settled in. I’ve come to expect the unexpected in life (since everything seems to happen to me), so the fact that my key didn’t work, landlord didn’t answer her phone and the parking passes I had were expired really didn’t phase me. The good news is I made it through the night, my car didn’t get towed and I now have an amazing parking spot and updated passes. I’m all unpacked and am eager to let my inquisitive soul run wild!
Miami is gorgeous. The area I’m living in is positively perfect! Everything is within walking distance – restaurants, bars, shopping, grocery stores, banks, post-office and school. I’ve always wanted to live somewhere that enabled me to walk more and I’m really looking forward to exploring South Beach on foot. It’s all still a little overwhelming, but I don’t think it will take me too long to get my head around it.
Today I’m planning on spending the day getting accustomed to the area, checking out school and hopefully getting in a look-see at the beach. I’ll upload pictures this evening of the new place and any interesting things I may find during my adventure today. Other than that, football playoffs tomorrow, so as you can imagine I’ll be glued to a television somewhere. At 6:30 some of my fellow boot campers are meeting at a restaurant close to my house for drinks. I’m looking forward to pre-meeting everyone prior to orientation on Monday and hopefully making some friends.
I must say that this move has proven to be very empowering for me – giving me a strong sense of self-confidence. I’ve moved countless times before on my own, but never somewhere that I had never been or didn’t know a soul. I was really intimidated for a second and questioned whether or not I could do this, but quickly talked myself out it. I have nothing to be afraid of and can handle any obstacle that may cross my path as long as I try my hardest and know that I gave it my best shot. 2009 has started off fabulously and I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
